Xena
Welcome to the HH Helps family, Xena! Dr. Schwassman contacted us for help when Xena presented with a large growth blocking the entrance to her ear. Her owner had rescued her from a previous owner who was not taking care of her. She came not only with the growth but also awful teeth. Her owner already took care of a dental cleaning and 11 extractions, so we agreed to help with the cost of her...
China
China is one of the lucky ones. As a pitbull puppy there are a lot of strikes against you. But, despite the odds, China found a home with a loving family. All was going great until, in the way only clumsy puppies can, China fell off the porch and broke her leg. Her owners took her to see Dr. Peck, fearing that China would lose a leg. Thank God, Dr. Peck said that he wouldn't amputate if he felt...
Keanu
Keanu let us know that the ear mass Dr. Schwassman removed was a benign polyp and not cancer! There is always a chance that it may regrow, but that probability is greatly reduced by the fact that Dr. Schwassman lasered the site of attachment to prevent regrowth. We are so happy for this good news, Keanu, and we are so happy that we were able to make it possible for you to have this nasty mass...
Calle
Calle was brought to see Dr. Schwassman because she was dizzy and having trouble walking. Sure enough, the problem was with her inner ear. She had a deep infection and needed a surgical deep cleaning. There seems to be an epidemic of dizzy dogs right now because this is the fifth dizzy dog we have helped get needed surgery this year--three with ear masses and two who needed deep ear cleanings....
Chance S.
Chance is a lovely boy who, unfortunately, has some very unlovely allergies. His mom is a teacher and ran out of his allergy vaccine injections over the summer and couldn't afford to refill them. His allergies are flaring, and Dr. Schwassman felt he needed help NOW, so she asked Houndhaven Helps to step in. She said the owner is a great owner, and Chance is a great dog, so we are happy to help...
Red
Meet Red. He was brought to Dr. Peck's office after having been shot while he was minding his own business in his own yard! The bullet fractured his leg, and Red was in need of immediate surgery. When the owners had trouble coming up with the cash to get Red the help he needed, Dr. Peck called on us. We were happy to help this dear boy get the surgery he needed so that he could go back to...
Zeke
We are sorry to report that one of our own (Zeke, HH class of 2018) is our newest Houndhaven Helps recipient. Zeke has an aggressive form of lymphoma whose prognosis is 1-2 months without chemotherapy, 4-6 months with chemo. Dr. Sones and Zeke's owners have chosen a conservative chemo for Zeke's sake and to be cost conscious. Although we cannot cure Zeke, or even give him a lot of time with his...
Mia
Mia is a sweet little yorkie mix who needed to have some biopsies and unusual cultures done in order for Dr. Schwassman to diagnose her skin condition. The $1,300 for those tests was more than Mia's owner could afford all at once, so HH Helps stepped in. We didn't want this poor girl to suffer with these issues any longer than necessary! Mia is now on the road to recovery, thanks to our...
Luka
Luka, a one year old golden retriever presented to Dr. Knight after having seizures for a month. The owner had taken him to multiple vets prior to coming to Blue Pearl, and Dr. Knight initially focused on managing his seizures. Two weeks later he was seen again for continued seizures along with sudden aggression. That was a total 180 degree turn in his personality, so Dr. Knight ordered a MRI...
Figgy
Figgy presented to Dr. Knight with a back injury. As is common with dachshunds, she had some herniated discs and needed back surgery immediately. When her owner was unable to pay for this unexpected $11,000 expense, Dr. Knight called on HH Helps. We were happy to help Figgy get the surgery she needed. Her owner said: Thank you so much for helping our dog Figgy in time of desperate need. Figgy is...
Bruno
Bruno went to visit Dr. Tano, and he was diagnosed with not one, but TWO torn cruciate ligaments! That will require two separate surgeries and a correspondingly huge vet bill. Dr. Tano wanted to help Bruno be able to walk comfortably again, so she offered our help to the owners. They were very grateful for the assistance HH Helps could provide thanks to our wonderful donors. Bruno has had his...
Jaxon
Jaxon is a happy golden retriever (aren't they all) who just turned 7 years old. See birthday photo with his family, including golden sister "Daisy". Unfortunately, this handsome boy was recently diagnosed with cancer. The good news is that he has an excellent oncologist, Dr. Evan Sones of Animal Cancer Care Clinic. The bad news is that his treatment is going to be very expensive for a...
